A $20,000 grant from the Richard A. Henson Foundation will directly support programs and operations for the Boys & Girls Club at Truitt Community Center which serves 100 kids and teens daily in east Salisbury.

The Boys & Girls Club at Truitt Community Center offers nearly 280 days of no-cost programming to kids and teens ages 6 to 18 that goes far beyond traditional after-school activities. Trained youth development professionals use a holistic approach to foster kids' academic success, health and wellbeing, character and leadership, and life and workforce readiness through a variety of enrichment activities.

“Free programming is the gateway to opportunity for so many families in our community who simply can’t afford additional after-school activities or enrichment programs. Without generous funders like the Henson Foundation, we would not be able to open our doors to the children and teens who need the services and the care we offer,” said Enaka Beteck, Truitt Club manager.

“Boys & Girls Clubs are at their best when they receive the full support of the local community,” added Jeffrey Breslin, president & CEO. “A gift from the Henson Foundation is a signal that this support is strong and growing, and it means great things lie ahead for our Club kids.”

Boys & Girls Club began providing programming out of the Truitt Community Center in spring 2022. The completion of a 3,900 square foot addition by the City of Salisbury in fall 2024 allowed the program to triple its membership to 100 kids and teens.“ Our trustees are proud to support opportunities for kids and teens to engage in positive and productive activities that benefit them and their families. We look forward to seeing how Boys & Girls Club continues to uplift our city’s east side communities,” shared Stacey McMichael, executive director of the Henson Foundation.

We are profoundly grateful to the Richard A. Henson Foundation for their investment in our community's most precious resource, our children.
