Newly Expanded Boys & Girls Club at Truitt Community Center in Salisbury Celebrates Grand Opening, Receives New Passenger Van from Bridgestone

[Salisbury, MD] – [October 14, 2024] – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore today announced the opening of the newly expanded Boys & Girls Club at Truitt Community Center during a grand opening celebration at the facility, highlighted by a special gift from Bridgestone Retail Operations (Bridgestone) to provide safe and reliable transportation.  The expanded club will now serve 100 kids and teens in the critical afterschool hours.

A Boys & Girls Club program has been operating out of the Truitt Community Center since spring 2022, but the completion of a 3,900 square foot addition by the City of Salisbury now allows the program to triple its membership this fall.

The grand opening celebration featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony with special guests, including Maryland Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Jake Day and Boys & Girls Clubs of America President and CEO Jim Clark. The event also included guided tours of the new facility, interactive activities for children and families, and light refreshments.

During the ceremony, Bridgestone surprised Club kids and families when they unveiled a new passenger van donated to Boys & Girls Club at Truitt Community Center. The new van will provide Club kids with transportation to and from their Clubhouse and other enrichment activities, addressing one of the biggest hurdles families face and giving more kids and teens access to high-impact, out-of-school programming. The donation is a part of Bridgestone’s Driving Great Futures initiative, which has raised over $23 million to connect kids and teens with Boys & Girls Clubs of America programs and resources across the U.S. since 2015.

The Boys & Girls Club will continue to offer programming designed to empower youth to excel in school, become good citizens, and lead healthy, productive lives. With dedicated spaces for homework help, creative arts, sports, and mentorship, the Club is designed to serve kids and teens of all ages and interests.

“We are excited to expand our reach in Salisbury with the opening of this addition to the building,” said Jeff Breslin, President & CEO. “The Truitt Community Center is already a beacon of hope and opportunity for 30 kids and their families. More space allows us to open our doors to more kids and deepen our impact in the surrounding community.”

Construction was completed by the City of Salisbury’s Housing and Community Development Department as part of their commitment to ensuring more kids have access to a safe and supportive afterschool environment.

The Boys & Girls Club at Truitt Community Center will be open Monday through Friday, providing after-school programs and summer camps to kids and teens ages 6 to 18. With support from generous donors and funders, membership is open to all youth in the area at no charge to families.
