On January 25, elementary school members from our Westport Homes Club attended a Towson University Women’s basketball game, courtesy of the Athletic Department and SECU. The Tigers hosted Elon University in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) conference matchup.
Before the game, our kids had the chance to meet the members of the team while watching the pre-game shootaround from the team bench. For the team to take time out of their warm-ups was an honor, but no surprise as they have logged over 700 volunteer hours since July 2018.
The opportunity to attend the game was part of a partnership network, Baltimore-Towson University (BTU), one of eight priorities of TU President Kim Schatzel. Through BTU, Towson University is working with partners to create positive impacts in Greater Baltimore.
“I liked when [Towson] scored and when we took pictures with them,” said ten-year old Matthew Johnson.
SECU, Maryland’s leading credit union and corporate partner of Towson University Athletics, hosted the event for our members. Due to the hospitality of SECU, the kids watched the game from an exclusive suite with dinner provided.
In a tight game, Towson came away with the victory, winning 59-58.
All in all, the kids and chaperones had a wonderful time, and look forward to their next game.
