For 75 years, the Youth of the Year (YOY) program has honored and celebrated the nation’s most inspiring teens and their incredible journeys at Boys & Girls Clubs across the nation. Teens are recognized for service to their Club, community, and family; academic excellence; moral character; and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle. YOY candidates must be between 14 and 18 years of age; have been a Boys & Girls Club member for three years; and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.
Our 2024 YOY finalists are:
Ashawnte
Club: Brooklyn O’Malley, Baltimore
Grade: Freshmen
Career Aspiration: Business & Entrepreneurship
Fun fact: Ashawnte is an academic achiever, self-motivated, and passionate about servant leadership.
Quote: “As I look towards the future, I carry with me the lessons and values I have learned at the Club, and I am determined to continue striving for excellence in all aspects of my life.”
AuPrince
Club: Webster Kendrick, Baltimore
Grade: Freshman
Career Aspirations: Wants to own his own business
Fun fact: AuPrince had his first job at the Club this past summer through Youthworks.
Quote: “A sense of purpose and commitment guides my journey to what matters to me to impact the world positively.”
Madison
Club: Leonards Lane, Cambridge
Grade: Sophomore
Career Aspirations: Pastry chef; culinary arts and business owner
Fun fact: Madison wants to learn how to play the piano and guitar.
Quote: “My friends matter to me, my family matters to me, my memories, my hobbies, and my future as well.”

As they vie for this prestigious title, they showcase not only their individual achievements but also the collective power of youth to effect positive change in the world.
