On Tuesday, October 24, Webster Kendrick hosted Westport for the first game of the fall intraclub basketball season. After some fierce competition, Webster Kendrick came out on top with a final score of 61 – 57. And though there was certainly lots of pride in victory, Boys & Girls Clubs staff know that the value of competitions like this goes way beyond the scoreboard.
Sports and recreation help youth develop physical fitness, reduce stress and promote a positive use of leisure time. Sports also teach valuable life skills like cooperation and perseverance, as Brandon Clayton, lead youth development professional at our Webster Kendrick Club pointed out. “Being able to teach them life skills through sports is something that’s always central at Boys & Girls Clubs. Today, members played a great game and showed sportsmanship and that’s what matters,” Clayton observed.
The game also gave members of our Westport Club the chance to travel across the city, an opportunity underscored by Wes Pindell, Club manager and coach that day.“We love the opportunity to collaborate with other Clubhouses because it gives our members a different perspective. These experiences also bring a sense of togetherness not only for the members but also the staff,” remarked Pindell.
Club members sported new jerseys courtesy of Under Armour and our 2023-2024 uniform sponsor Planet Fitness.
