After serving 15 years on our Board of Directors, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore (BGCMB) says goodbye to the incredible Dr. Sharon Duncan Jones-Eversley, who retires from the board this summer.
Dr. Jones-Eversley joined our board in 2009 and has seen the organization grow and expand to five counties across Maryland. Jeff Breslin, CEO of BGCMB, shared that Dr. Jones-Eversley “brought her experience, her wisdom, and her love for kids to our work and challenged us to live to our highest ideals.” One of her proudest moments from her time on the board was witnessing the dedication of Boys & Girls Clubs to families during the COVID-19 pandemic, where staff conducted “screen-door visits” to the homes of our Club kids to assess their needs during the challenging time.
"Limitless possibilities are what we provide our children and youth”, said Dr. Jones-Eversley. She envisions a future for Boys & Girls Clubs where community members and young adults continue to become “social investors,” providing our children with “high quality activities that lead to a healthy environment and life outcomes.”

A pioneer in public health, Dr. Jones-Eversley has spent her entire career championing the welfare of children and youth in Maryland. After earning her doctoral degree in public health from Morgan State University, she began her career as a Child Protective Services worker, investigating child abuse cases in Baltimore City. Her career has included significant roles in the State Attorney's Office with the Court Appointed Special Advocacy Program, founding the first Baltimore City Court School Program, and directing programs at Advocates for Children and Youth and the Baltimore Child Abuse Center. In 2023, Dr. Jones-Eversley retired from Towson University as a Professor Emeritus, the first professor from her department to receive this honor.
Her passion for public health and child welfare will continue well beyond her retirement. Dr. Jones-Eversley is currently writing a book titled The Transference of Health, inspired by the stories of her great-great grandmother, and plans to publish by 2025. She also plans to remain active with Boys & Girls Clubs through tutoring and staff training.
Dr. Jones-Eversley has been a champion for young people in Maryland and beyond. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore is grateful for her years of dedicated service and wishes her all the best as she embarks on this new chapter.
